adidas Group Concerns

University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman outlined in a Sept. 21, 2012, letter the university’s concerns over the way adidas has handled a situation involving workers formerly employed by the P.T. Kizone factory in Indonesia where licensed athletic apparel is made.

adidas is the official supplier of footwear and apparel for U-M athletic teams and is a licensed producer of apparel and products bearing U-M logos.

In a Sept. 27, 2012, response, adidas Group officials Patrik Nilsson and Gregg Nebel said the company was adhering to or exceeding the U-M’s code of conduct required of its business partners.

University and adidas officials continue to correspond with periodic updates.

There also has been correspondence between the university and the U-M chapter of United Students Against Sweatshops.
