On Thursday, March 21, 2024, the Washtenaw County Health Department reported a second case of measles in the county.

The individual, not affiliated with the university, was an authorized guest on the U-M campus on the second floor of Alice Lloyd Hall on Monday, March 11 in the morning.

U-M’s Department of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) is reaching out to residents and staff of the Alice Lloyd Hall with guidance on symptom monitoring and steps to appropriately seek testing and care if symptoms develop.

University officials are working closely with the county health department and continue to monitor the situation.

As noted by the county: “If someone is vaccinated against measles, infection is unlikely. About 3 of every 100 vaccinated people exposed to measles will become ill if exposed to the virus according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).”

Students who develop symptoms have been advised to contact University Health Service by emailing ContactUHS@med.umich.edu to arrange for clinical evaluation and care so that precautions can be taken to avoid exposing others.
