The University of Michigan is committed to fostering and upholding the highest ethical standards in its conduct of research, scholarship and creative practice. As part of its commitment, U-M employs a Research Integrity Team that is responsible for addressing allegations of research misconduct.
In accordance with institutional and federal policies and procedures, the university assesses all allegations of research misconduct, including fabrication, falsification and plagiarism, to determine the appropriate next steps. If a full investigation is warranted, the university empanels an ad hoc faculty committee to thoroughly examine evidence, conduct interviews with individuals associated with the case, and ultimately reach a resolution.
U-M’s detailed misconduct procedures are designed to safeguard the rights of the accused and the complainant (if one is identified), while acknowledging the university’s commitment to research integrity, transparency and trust.
