At the University of Michigan, we are very concerned about the status and safety of all students, including international students and those who may be undocumented.
The university values the global community that has been created on our campus, with students from all corners of our state, from across the nation and around the globe. The university is committed to the success of every student and we remain vigilant in protecting their ability to achieve their educational goals.
During this transition between presidential administrations, we are following closely the implications of a possible change in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Executive Order.
It is one of many potential post-election changes we are watching as we work with relevant higher education organizations to positively influence our shared future. It would be premature to speculate further about what may happen, but we are not standing still.
President Mark Schlissel is calling for the creation of a working group to further address the needs of the international and undocumented students on our campus during these uncertain times. This ad hoc committee on immigration issues will include faculty, staff and students to help identify concerns and how to best address them.
